Our History
2003
Genesis of ad notam
ad notam was founded in Germany near Lake Constance. Its founder, Oliver M. Röttcher, is not only a visionary, but also a passionate designer. Recognizing a need in the market for invisible video technology, Oliver researched extensively into viable options and ultimately decided to develop moving images with sound for mirrors.
2004
AHistoric Milestone: Our First Patent Granted!
In 2004 we celebrated a major achievement - our first issued patent EP 1 168 285 with the title “Mirror having a part of it issued as information display”. This was the first of many and marked the beginning of an exciting journey, reinforcing our commitment to industry leadership.
2007
Our Team Expands
Growth isn’t just about innovation, it’s about people. Our team was expanding, bringing in new talent, fresh ideas, and even greater expertise to drive our mission forward. As we grew, so did our commitment to delivering exceptional service innovation. Every new team member added value and helped us reach new heights.
2009
Innovation Recognized: Another Patent Granted
That year we received European and US patents for “wall elements with a cutout for flat screen displays” (US 7,589,893 and EP 1 809 828 B1). This patent already covered the fitness mirror, which came to market in volumes almost a decade later. The patent got licensed to several market participants.
2012
Expanding Horizons
Innovation knows no borders, and neither did we. ad notam established distribution channels in over 50 countries worldwide and servicing many more countries via our headquarters in Germany. ad notam became a recognized world brand with a reputation of ingenuity and unparalleled quality.
2015
Introducing our actual tech platform DFU Series
Our Display Frame Units (DFUs) are specialized monitors designed for integration behind mirror surfaces. These units are particularly suited for applications where technology should be unobtrusive. Today, the DFU lineup includes models with screen sizes ranging from 13.3 to 98 inches.
2018
Breaking New Ground: First Smart Mirror in Retail!
We were the first to bring smart mirrors to retail stores, giving customers the chance to experience the future of interactive technology firsthand. By leading the way in retail, we were making smart mirrors a very much affordable item for everybody.
2020
Innovation for a Safer Tomorrow
In response to the global challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ad notam launched the UVC Disinfection Mirror. Designed to enhance safety in public spaces, the mirror utilizes UVC light to effectively eliminate bacteria and viruses, providing an extra layer of protection in everyday spaces.
2023
Futuristic Patent Granted
This year we saw the grant of our latest European patent EP 2905721. The scope of protection is very interesting and describes interactive smart mirrors with sensors.
What is particularly noteworthy is that the patent successfully survived opposition proceedings and therefore its enforceability can be classified as very high.

We were redefining manufacturing with digitalized production, combining advanced technology with precision engineering.
